Designer Fragrances

The Arabian chemist, Al-Kindi (Alkindus), wrote in the 9th interval a book on perfumes which he named ‘Book of the Chemistry of Perfume and Distillations’. It contained deeper than hundred recipes for fragrant oils, salves, perfumed waters and substitutes or imitations of costly drugs. The book also described unique hundred and seven methods and recipes for perfume-making, and even the perfume departmental equipment, like the alembic, still bears its Arabic name.

Antique or badly preserved perfumes undergoing this analysis can also be difficult due to the numerous degradation Designer Fragrances by-products and impurities that may have resulted from breakdown of the odorous compounds. Ingredients and compounds can usually be ruled out or identified using gas chromatograph (GC) smellers, which allow individual chemical components to be identified both through their gross properties and their scent.
